Devan Pope is an undergraduate student at the University of Tennessee in the prestigious college scholars program. His lifelong interest in music and aptitude for business led him to pursue an individualized degree in Orchestra Management. He has been deeply involved in the music department at his university, performing as principal oboist in the symphony orchestra, opera orchestra, and wind ensemble for the past three years. In 2012 and 2013 consecutively, he received the Gerald R. Barnes award for excellence in woodwind performance.
Devan has aspirations of becoming executive director for an orchestra. Throughout his undergraduate career, Devan has held jobs and internships at a number of arts organizations including the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, New York Summer Music Festival, International Double Reed Society, and the Dogwood Arts Festival, among others. He also has a passion for inspiring social change through music and hopes to found or become involved with an El Sistema based orchestra program in the United States. After graduating in May, Devan will be seeking full time employment with an orchestra or performing arts organization and hopes to relocate to the Northeastern United States.
